General Responsibilities
- Directly contributing to strategic decisions, as Head of the Microbiology Department
- Accountable for managing a young and dynamic team of MD’s, scientists and technicians
- Developing a modern strategy for the microbiology department for the next five years
- Working closely together with the other heads of departments
- Further development and implementation of novel diagnostic tests and techniques
- Leading several international EU projects and initiate new scientific-diagnostic projects
Qualifications, Requirements
- Medical degree in microbiology or laboratory medicine
- At least 5+ years’ experience in leading successfully a microbiology department in a clinical lab or at university
- Familiar with classical bacteriology or virology as well as with modern diagnostic strategies in microbial resistance
- Knowledge in NGS sequencing of pathogens will be an advantage
- A strong scientific interest and academic research in microbiology and infectious disease are a must
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Highly adept professional with a positive and team-oriented attitude
- Ability for interdisciplinary collaboration and partnering with other departments across a large, complex organization
- At ease mentoring a team through day-to-day operational projects
- Strategic and operational thinking
- Excellent interpersonal and communications skills in English, preferably in combination with French or German
